The Collective draws on more than a decade of hands-on second-hand experience to assess furniture, homewares and household contents.

Experience is also knowing when not to sell something.

Sometimes the likely return simply doesn't justify the preparation, transportation, commissions, fees and time involved.

Our aim is to focus effort where it has a genuine chance of producing a worthwhile result.

Choosing the Right Place to Sell

Different items suit different audiences.

Depending on what we're dealing with, we may consider:

· Established auction houses

· Specialist resale channels

· Online marketplaces

· Other appropriate avenues

· The Collective's own audience of more than 18,000 followers

Sometimes one platform makes sense.

Sometimes different pieces within the same house lot need completely different sales channels.

A More Transparent Way to Sell

Our approach to selling is designed to give your items the opportunity to achieve what the market is prepared to pay.

Rather than offering you a low lump-sum price for the entire contents and then reselling individual items for our own profit, we assess which items are worth selling and choose the most appropriate sales channel for them.

This provides a more transparent process and means any value realised from the contents is returned to you.

The Collective does not purchase your house lot and then retain the resale profit.

Where Do the Proceeds Go?

Where items are sold on your behalf, the sale proceeds belong to you.

If The Collective sells items privately on your behalf, the proceeds received are credited against your final clearance invoice.

Where items are sent to auction, the auction house will generally pay the net proceeds directly into your nominated account once the items have sold, after deducting applicable fees or commissions.

Items that do not sell at auction will generally be relisted a further one or two times, depending on the auction house.

If they remain unsold, we arrange for them to be donated or otherwise rehomed where practical.

Our 18,000+ Audience

The Collective built an established following of more than 18,000 people through our former second-hand retail business and wider community.

For selected items, this provides another potential sales avenue alongside auction houses and other channels.

We don't automatically use it for everything.

What Happens to Everything Else?

We look for donation, rehoming, reuse and recycling pathways through our wider Collective family.

Disposal is our last option.
