Frequently Asked Questions
What types of clearances do you provide?
We provide estate and house clearances, storage unit clearances and emergency or urgent clearances throughout Auckland.
Do you provide deceased estate clearances?
Yes.
Deceased estate clearances form part of our Estate & House Clearance service.
We work with families, executors, trustees, lawyers and estate administrators to manage the practical contents and clearance of the property.
Do you simply dispose of everything?
No.
We work through the contents, identify worthwhile resale opportunities and look for donation, rehoming, reuse and recycling options.
Disposal is our last option.
Do you buy the house lot?
No.
Our approach is designed to give worthwhile items the opportunity to achieve what the market is prepared to pay rather than us purchasing the entire contents and retaining the resale profit.
Can you sell household contents for us?
Where items have genuine resale potential, yes.
Selling is generally managed as part of a wider estate, house or storage clearance.
Depending on the items, we may use auction houses, specialist channels, online marketplaces, other appropriate sales avenues or The Collective's own audience.
Where do the sale proceeds go?
The sale proceeds belong to you.
Private-sale proceeds received by The Collective are credited against your final clearance invoice.
Where items are sold through an auction house, the auction house will generally pay the net proceeds into your nominated account after applicable fees and commissions.
What happens if something doesn't sell at auction?
Depending on the auction house, unsold items are generally relisted a further one or two times.
If they remain unsold, we arrange for them to be donated or otherwise rehomed where practical.
What happens to things that can't be sold?
Suitable belongings may be donated, rehomed or reused.
Recyclable materials are directed through our wider network wherever practical.
What is the Collective family?
The Collective family is our wider network of charities, community organisations, auction houses, reuse partners and recycling and zero-waste organisations built over many years.
Do you provide urgent clearances?
Yes, where capacity allows.
Contact us as early as possible with the property location, approximate scope and deadline.
Do you provide senior relocation?
Yes.
We provide downsizing, packing, move coordination, unpacking, setting up the new home and assistance with belongings left behind.
Are you a moving company?
Our service is broader than simply transporting furniture.
We coordinate professional movers while The Collective manages the wider relocation.
What boxes do you use?
For senior relocations, we use our own Eco Crate reusable moving boxes together with appropriate protective packing materials.
Do you clean the property afterwards?
A final light clean of the cleared areas is included in our standard clearance process where appropriate.
If a more extensive clean is required, we can discuss this as part of the agreed scope.
Can you help if I live outside Auckland or overseas?
Yes.
Once the scope and instructions are agreed, we can manage the physical clearance locally without you needing to be onsite.
